Would it work on Puerto Rico? If yes which providers AT&T (Cingular) , Centennial, Claro (America Movil), Sprint (Nextel), Suncom Triton PCS, Telefonica Movistar, Verizon Wireless? If no, why not?

Textmarks is compatible with US carriers only. You can view a full of list of the carriers we support via the following link:

Cheryl, tks for your reply but I'm still not 100% sure that answered my question and here is why.
I've seen that list before and notice that some carriers listed there also match some of the carriers available in Puerto Rico - AT&T (Cingular) , Centennial, Sprint (Nextel), Verizon Wireless - and since Puerto Rico also uses phone prefix code 1 I was wondering if textmarks would work there.

Yes, I actually have a couple of customers who use Textmarks services in the Puerto Rico area and have had no trouble.
